Acai
Acai (pronounced “ah-sigh-ee”) is a small berry with a deep purple color. It is a potent source of antioxidants, including ferulic acid and epicatechin.
Ferulic acid is an antioxidant found in the cell walls of plants such as rice and oats and the seeds of apples and oranges, where it plays a key role in the plants' protection and self-preservation.
When applied topically, ferulic acid acts like other antioxidants in that it helps to slow the ageing process by reducing the effects of damaging free radicals on the skin. It is also thought to protect against sun damage, as well as assisting in skin's regeneration functions to tackle skin that has already been over-exposed. In addition it has the benefit of working well alongside other antioxidants, enhancing the stability and the efficacy of vitamins C and E.

Carnosine
As a Nutritionist I have been familiar with the amazing anti-ageing benefits of the amino-acid Carnosine for some years now. Essentially this amino acid has a rejuvenating effect on all our cells, in effect extending our cellular lifespan. One of the principal ingredients in my Essential Moisturiser is Carnosine.
Topically Carnosine is an excellent agent for keeping our skin elastic and youthful looking by helping to prevent skin collagen cross-linking damage, done by sugar-related glycation. Glycation has been long regarded as a major cause of ageing and is believed to be the main culprit behind deep wrinkling, the thinning of skin and the mottled appearance of age spots.
Carnosine also is instrumental in protecting cellular DNA from damage.

Ceylon Cinnamon
Today nearly all supermarkets, natural food stores, prepared food (plus herbal teas) and beauty products contain cinnamomum cassia (cassia cinnamon) from China. However, cassia cinnamon is not true cinnamon and does not deliver the same benefits as the Ceylon variety, grown mostly in Sri Lanka. The distinction between these two types is vital as cassia cinnamon is an irritant and does not contain the beneficial medicinal (blood sugar stabilising properties) and beautifying properties of true Ceylon cinnamon. Cinnamon’s strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, coupled with its high antioxidant content, makes it a true star. Cinnamon also has the unique ability to increase blood circulation and collagen production through a key ingredient known as ‘cinnamaldehyde.’ This (naturally occurring) chemical constituent boosts circulation and assists in plumping skin and fighting the common effects of visible ageing and cell damage.

Copaiba
You may have heard lots lately about CBD and skin health. We have Cannabinoid receptors all over the body. Copaiba contains a different type of cannabinoid than CBD, BCP Beta-CaryoPhyllene.
CB1 and CB2 are the two different types of cannabinoid receptors.
CB1 resides in the nervous system, connective tissues, gonads, glands, and organs.
CB2 resides in the immune system and structures.
The cannabinoid in Copaiba directly affects the CB2 receptors.
And, Copiaba oil contains a much higher active biochemical amount of BCP (60%) than CBD products (2-30%).
Some of the most important and impressive health benefits of copaiba essential oil include its ability to reduce pain, eliminate inflammation, protect against infection, heal the skin, prevent fungal growth, boost respiratory health and improve the health of the skin. This is why I chose it as part of nearly every product in the Glow Botanicals range.

Evening Primrose
Ever since it was discovered in the early 1930’s that evening primrose's precious oil contains high amounts of the rare gamma-linolenic acid, short GLA, it has been used for a number of health concerns from eczema to PMS, breast pain, hormonal imbalance, and dermatitis. As this highly anti-inflammatory GLA, a particular plant-derived omega-6 fatty acid, can’t be made by our own body, it’s essential we include nature’s abundant sources to ensure our skin, hair, nails, and joints stay nourished and strong. GLA helps to effectively prevent moisture loss and strengthens the skin barrier, while it’s anti-inflammatory properties treat and prevent inflammatory conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and acne. Additionally, GLA speeds up the healing process and the regrowth of healthy, new cells, while gently diminishing the appearance of scars and blemishes. Evening primrose oil’s antioxidant properties are said to provide protection against free radical damage and naturally boost the skin’s elasticity.

Ubiquinol CoQ10
Ubiquinol the active form of CoQ10 is a vitamin-like antioxidant necessary for cells to function properly. The human body naturally produces Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and it can be found in just about every living cell, but the amounts present in our skin peak in our twenties and begin to decline thereafter. As we age, our cell and energy production are greatly reduced; skin begins to demonstrate visible signs of this in the form of wrinkles, fine lines, and diminished firmness and elasticity.
Studies show the antioxidant content of stressed and maturing skin can be dramatically improved through the topical use of Coenzyme Q10. Over time, this powerful antioxidant replenishes ubiquinol levels as it
penetrates both the surface and deeper layers of the epidermis. CoQ10 functions as a free radical scavenger, greatly reducing oxidative damage from stress and environmental factors (such as UV irradiation) while maintaining healthy cellular levels.

Goji Berry
Goji berries (both its seed oil and its fruit extract) are a good source of vitamin C and vitamin E. They're also an excellent antioxidant, which is critical to help rejuvenate skin and mitigate the ageing process and its impact on the skin. The oil also tightens and firms the skin which is why I have chosen the organic Co2 extract to be featured in my Eye Repair (6)
Jojoba
About 30% of our skin’s sebum (the natural substance that coats our skin) is a natural wax ester. It helps kill germs, smother viruses, and creates a protective barrier for locking in moisture. There are many reasons this protective wax ester in our skin diminishes. Loss is normal in mature skin and common after illness, poor nutrition, as a side effect of certain medications, and following aggressive cleansing or treatment protocols. When our natural sebum production has been compromised and the wax ester depleted, skin can be left feeling and looking dry, tired, and dull.
This is where the golden magic of jojoba comes in. Your skin recognises the liquid wax produced from the seed of the jojoba plant as similar to its own natural wax ester. When applied topically, skin pores remain open, allowing jojoba to penetrate beyond the epidermis layer, carrying other important nutrients with it. It is in these deeper layers where cell regeneration and cell synthesis occurs.
Jojoba naturally contains a balance of vitamins A, B, D, and E which are known as skin healing vitamins, as well as minerals like chromium, copper, and zinc, which all nourish and protect skin from environmental stressors. Essential fatty acids omega 6 and 9 help to regenerate skin cells and repair damaged skin tissue. Jojoba’s wax ester fills the gaps between skin cells; soothes and slows their metabolism, protecting skin against accelerated skin ageing. Jojoba is naturally antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and hypoallergenic.

Tocopherols
Vitamin E is made up of eight different compounds that are divided into two separate categories: tocopherols, the form traditionally used in beauty care products; and tocotrienols. When scientists first studied vitamin E, they concluded that the alpha tocopherol was the most effective form of vitamin E for protecting lipids from free radical attack. This is why you will see alpha tocopherol (an isolated form) in most cosmetics and supplements. This information is incorrect, we need all natural components of Vitamin E for it to be truly effective. I use a Tocopherol (plus add a tocotrienol complex too) in all my cosmetics. This beautiful, enriching oil energises and enhances the skin's natural regenerative processes and softens scar tissue. Incredibly nourishing and nutritive

Tocotreniols
Tocopherols Natural Vitamin E (the one most heard of) contains four chemically related compounds called Tocotrienols. Tocotrienols are a form of 'super' Vitamin E and I have been using them for many years, both as a supplement and in topical formulations. Tocotrienols are much more potent than isolated vitamin E itself in protecting the skin against free radicals attack. The fat-soluble nutrient Vitamin E is revered for its nourishing and emollient benefits as well as its antioxidant powerhouse. Tocotrienols are an important component of my skin care and I believe you reap the full benefits when both types of vitamin E are combined.

Mango Butter
From the big seed of the Mango fruit, Mango butter is rich in oleic acid, a mono-unsaturated omega-9 acid; and stearic acid, a saturated fatty acid. These are ingredients that the skin readily recognises, takes up, and uses to help add moisture to the skin and tightens and firms. Since mango butter is a natural source of vitamin A, it helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and increasing skin’s overall youthful look.

Inulin Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide
More is coming to light now about the microbiome, internally and externally. A Cosmetic Prebiotic helps to create a barrier against pollution and environmental damage from the sun and wind. The inulin is extracted from chicory roots whilst the Alpha-glucan oligosaccharide is obtained from sugar beet. This acts as a food for the desirable bacteria present on the skin and the undesirable bacteria are unable to process it. Therefore, it promotes the friendly bacteria on the skin to recover and grow faster whilst the harmful ones are reduced and this in turn, restores the natural bacterial balance to the skin.

Niacinamide
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 and a precurser of the co-enzymes NADH and NADPH. These enzymes are essential for cell energy production and lipid synthesis. Unfortunately, levels decline with age. Fortunately, niancinamide is proven to reverse that decline. Niacinamide is also very helpful for moisture retention. And, according a study published in the British Journal of Dermatology, it “significantly decreased hyperpigmentation and increased skin lightness” after four weeks of use.

Geraniol**
Geraniol is not a singular ingredient we add to our formulas, rather it is a naturally occurring, non-synthetic component within our pure essential oils.
Geraniol is a compound found in within our bulgarian rose oil, rosa centifolia flower extract, and geranium rose. It is a phytonutrient naturally present in lemon, bergamot, carrot, coriander, geranium oil, lavender oil, ylang ylang oil, nutmeg, orange, blueberries, and blackberries.
Geraniol is a concentrated source of natural antioxidants and has been extensively studied for its potential to protect cells against DNA damage. It is known for preventing oxidative stress and bringing free-radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory effects to the skin.
Linalool **
* Linalool is not an isolated ingredient we add to our formulas, rather it is a naturally occurring, non-synthetic component within our pure essential oils.
Linalool is most often produced in plants’ floral tissue. The Lauraceae plant family, which includes laurels, cinnamon, and rosewood, is a readily available source. The Rutaceae family, which contains citrus plants, is also a natural source, along with lavender, coriander, palmarosa, ylang-ylang, and sweet orange flowers (neroli). Birch trees and even some fungi produce linalool as well!
Limonene**
* Limonene is not an isolated ingredient we add to our formulas, rather it is a naturally occurring, non-synthetic component within our pure essential oils.
Limonene is a compound found in the essential oils of many plants such as lemon, lime, lemongrass, neroli, grapefruit, tangerine, peppermint, rose, sage, fennel, and geranium. Limonene is responsible for the sweet, lemon-like, pungent aroma we associate with citrus fruit.
Besides being a powerful antioxidant, limonene works as a penetration enhancer. When used in association with other natural, skin-friendly ingredients, we are able to enjoy the maximum benefits of each.
